About school
Looking back at the history of the Warsaw University of Technology, we see not only achievements in academic teaching and scientific research but also efforts to steep young people in patriotism and to safeguard the academic community ethos.
It were the results of these efforts that led the academic community to repeatedly stand up in defense of the highest of values: the sovereignty of the Republic of Poland, freedom and civic rights, ethical principles and spiritual values nurtured over many centuries of Poland’s history. Time and again the Warsaw University of Technology paid a heavy price for its commitment to these values ― suffering severe repression, seeing its activities curbed, and even being denied its very existence ― and yet it always came back to life, under different names, preserving freedom of thought and never weakening in its attachment to the European university tradition.
Today too our community works on to promote patriotism, solidarity, humanity and tolerance in succeeding generations of students, cultivating the University’s heritage and the best of its traditions, taking care to preserve the unbroken adherence to recognized values and maintain the integrity of its achievements.
Its political impartiality notwithstanding, the Warsaw University of Technology retained its own identity as an institution taking an active part in public life, striving as far as possible to provide the young people of our day with equal opportunities to gain an education.
The Warsaw University of Technology is an academic institution of higher learning, shaping the future social elites ― educated people with a broad outlook on the world, conscious of their own views but also understanding and respecting the world views of others.
The University not only gives shape to the minds of its student but also forges their characters, awakens in them the kind of creative attitudes engineers should display, furnishing them not only with knowledge but also with skills. Knowledge is best imparted by those who actively expand it, and skills passed on by those who had to learn them through practice.
Warsaw University of Technology currently focuses on the university – industry cooperation. The main aim is to share knowledge, experience, good practices and entrepreneurial skills in the dissemination and transfer of technologies. We plan to explore opportunities for creation and consolidation of a regional network of technology transfer with main companies in our country.

Admission
Every foreign candidate who wishes to study at the Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Poland must hold a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC).
Secondary School Leaving Certificate – a certificate of the completion of a secondary school abroad may be accepted if the student has completed at least 11 years of education.
SSLC issued in the countries which hold an agreement on recognition of educational credentials with Poland, do not have to be recognized. The list of these countries is available at: http://www.buwiwm.edu.pl/rec/index-legal.htm
SSLC from other countries must be formally recognized – nostrified, by the Polish educational authority.
Foreign SSLCmay be accepted (nostrified) as an equivalent of the Polish certificate if:
- the student has completed at least 11 years of education
- it is legalized.
The apostille is the legalisation provided by the appropriate institution in the country where the certificate was issued – they include a clause defining the right of applying to all HEIs in the country of the certificate´s issue;
In other cases, the applicant must present, apart from the school certificate, a letter from an appropriate authority from the country of the certificate´s issue (i.e. the Ministry of Education, local educational authority etc.) which confirms that the candidate is eligible to be admitted to all HEIs. The Polish Foreign Service representative office or a Consular Office verify this eligibility.

LEGALIZATION
According to the international law, legalization is the process of certifying a document so that it complies with the legal system of the foreign country.
There are two types of legalization of international documents, depending on the country of issue:
- Apostille – for Hague Convention and EU countries.
- Legalization – for all other countries.
You can only legalize your diploma/certificate, not your transcript of records. You must present a document which proves you have fulfilled all the eligibility criteria.
Bachelor studies:
your Secondary School Leaving Certificate must include a clause which states that the candidate can continue his/her higher education in the country of the document´s issue. If such statement is not included in your certificate, you must obtain a special stamp/certificate from the Polish Embassy or another appropriate institution (most probably Ministry of Education or an equivalent office) in the country where the document was issued.

CITIZENS OF HAGUE CONVENTION COUNTRIES:
If you are a citizen of one of the countries which have adopted the Hague Convention you are required to present a document called apostille. You can obtain it at the Polish Embassy, Consulate or another appropriate institution (most probably the Ministry of Education or an equivalent office) in the country where the document was issued.
CITIZENS OF OTHER COUNTRIES:
A foreign candidate must go to the Polish Embassy or Consulate in his/her home country to have the documents legalized. In some countries, it is possible to obtain legalization from the Embassy/Consulate of your own country if they are authorized. Please contact your Embassy for more information.
Please note: legalization must not be done on the photocopies of documents! It must be done on a duplicate, on a separate document and, in case of some countries, on an original diploma or certificate.
PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH:
If you are from a country where English is an official or one of the official languages – it is not applicable.
University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate:
- First Certificate in English (FCE),
- Certificate in Advanced English (CAE),
- Certificate of Proficiency in English (C(BEC2),
- Business English Certificate 3 (BEC3),
- Certificate in English for International Business and Trade (CEIBT).
International English Language Testing System IELTS:
- more than 6 points – University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate, the British Council i Education Australia;
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
- minimum 500 points, minimum 3,5 points from essay TWE – issued by Educational Testing Service, Princeton, USA;
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL):
- from level First Class Pass at Intermediate Level – issued by Pitman Qualifications Institute;
London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI):
- English for Business Level 2,
- English for Business Level 3,
- English for Business Level 4.
London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board (LCCI):
- Foundation Certificate for Teachers of Business English (FTBE).
